Acute toxicity studies on sumithion and its effect on blood and brain cholinesterase activities in mice
Prasad Vadlamudi Vani, BS Paul
October-December 1973, 5(4):423-427
Acute oral toxicity studies on sumithion, an organophosphorus insecticide in mice were conducted. The symptoms exhibited by the mice were characteristic of toxicity of anricholinesterase agents. The oral LD50 was found to be 884 mglkg body weight. The effect of LD50 on cholinesterase activity in blood and brain was also studied. The toxic symptoms appeared after about I5 to 30 min. The maximum cholinesterase. inhibition in both blood and brain (74% and 86% respectively) was noted after one hour of administration of the insecticide.
