The CNS depressant actions of isatin have been compared with chlorpromazine. Isatin reduces spontaneous motor activity in mice as measured by Jaguet's actograph in small doses in which it does not show any change in gross behaviour. It also lowers body temperature and potentiates hexobarbitone sleeping time. It is less potent than chlorpromazine in prolonging hexobarbitone induced sleep in mice.
