pharmacological investigations on the essential oil of Blumea lacera revealed that it exerts depressant effect on central nervous system. The essential oil has analgesic, hypothermic and tranquilising properties.

Cythioate, a systemic organophosphorus compound has progressively increased the acetylcholine (ACh) content (16.54 to 118.04%) and decreased the cholinesterase (ChE) activity (23.0 to 98.4%) of rat brain with 3 to 100 mg/kg doses given by i.p. route. Atropine protected the rats from the toxic effects of cythioate by blocking the action of ACh at the receptors without affecting Ach content and ChE activity.

Six acylamino phenothiazines (A to F) were synthesised in our laboratory. Only compounds A,B,C and F showed local anaesthetic activity. The compound C with secondary amino group, though more potent than xylocaine, was more irritant. The compounds D and E with tertiary amino group were devoid of local anaesthetic activity.
