It is my great privilege to write a review on the Seventh Edition of “Fundamentals of Experimental Pharmacology” written by an eminent Pharmacologist, Prof. M. N. Ghosh. It is an authoritative and influential book for Pharmacy and Pharmacology students and teachers, covering fundamentals of all aspects of Experimental Pharmacology, ranging from laboratory animal handling, traditional isolated tissue experiments to alternative tools as cell lines, as well as molecular, biological, and clinical research aspects. Since the publication of its first edition in 1971, the book has been updated six times to match the continuously undergoing changes in Pharmacology curriculum and emerging advances in this discipline. With recent developments in the area of simulated animal experiments, chapters on “Common laboratory animals,” “Some standard techniques,” and “Anesthetics used in laboratory animals” have been deleted. Several new concepts on Receptor Pharmacology and Nanotechnology have been incorporated to prepare students for newer drug discovery paradigms. Key feature of this book is that it gives sound and brief theoretical background followed by rapid, at hand knowledge of appropriate experimental techniques.

Next edition may also include basic concepts on Pharmacogenomics and Pharmacogenetics-based approaches in drug discovery. Overall, the recent edition of the book is highly recommended for all the postgraduates related to Pharmacology and allied health disciplines, trainees, research workers, and scientists involved in industrial drug discovery setup and clinical research organizations.
