1. The per se reIaxant effect of dopamine and its different analogues, with different substituents on nitrogen atom and alpha carbon atom, was studied on the isolated guinea pig tracheal chain. Isoprenaline and ritodrine were used as standards for comparison. 2. All the dopamine analogues, like isoprenaline and ritodrine, produced dose-dependent relaxation. The relaxant effect produced by alpha-methyl-isopropyl- dopamine and dobutamine was quite comparable to ritodrine but was less than that of isoprenaline. The activity of phenyl-secondary-butyl-dopamine was some what less than that of ritodrine.
