Aristolic acid an antifertility agent is non-mutagenic to bacterial system

1. Aristolic acid, a potential antifertility agent was found not mutagenic in Ames test. On the other hand aristolochic acid and analogue of aristolit acid was mutagenic. 2. The presence of nitrovinyl group in the phenantnrene molecule seemed to be essential for mutagenic property.
