RB Arora1, K Kheterpal2, T Khanna3, HS Siddiqui4
1. Acute toxicity and pharacological studies were performed with «SQ»Ajmaloon«SQ»; a polypharmaceutical preparation containg raulwolfia.
2. Ajmaloon significantly reduced blood presure in anaesthetised dogs. The drug attenuated the responses of standard drugs; noradrenaline, acetylcholine and carotid occlusion.
3. On behaviour, ajmaloon showed significant reduction of spontaneous motor activity and rearing. Acid content in gastric secretion and ulcer count was significantly reduced by ajmaloon.
4. Ajmaloon showed no mortality up to the dose of 25.6 gm/kg in mice and 20 mg/kg in rats given orally. LD50 of ajmaloon in mice by intraperitoneal route was 2.5 mg/kg.
