In vitro procedure using Rat mesenteric mast cells-for toxicity screening

1. Degranulated mast cells were more in the peripheral region of Rat Mesenteric pieces while compared to their central region under normal conditions. 2. Toxic sod. chloride extract of epoxy polymer (caused deaths of Mice when injected intravenousely) produced degranulation of Mesenteric mast cells. 3. Degree of degranulation as a result of toxic epoxy polymer extract increase in concentration exposed. 4 Treatment with the saline extract of non-toxic epoxy material (That caused no mortality of Mice when injected intravenousely) did not show the effect of degranulation in Mast cell. 5. In conclusion the in vitro mast cell techniques offered an added advantage over the in vivo models in studying the toxic profile of biomaterial and thereby reduce the number of animals used.
