Rational use of topical corticosteroids in dermatology

1. One thousand and eighty prescriptions of dermatology patients were analysed regarding potency of topical corticosteroids, frequency, duration, site of application and the quantity used. 2. Potent topical corticosteroids were prescribed for 41% and very potent formulations for 22% patients. 3. Frequency of application was mentioned in most (93%) of prescriptions but quantity to be used in only 12% prescriptions.
