1. A series of 9-alkylamino-1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydroacridines and analogues were synthesized and tested for local ansesthetic activity in rabbits and guinea pigs.
2. 9-n-Heptylamino-1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydroacridines showed the maximum activity and were more potent than lignocaine.
3. The local anaesthetic activity seems to be partly influenced by the lipophilicity of the compounds.
